Gala Theme Day (Thurs 22nd June) & Gala Parade Arrangements (Sat 24th June)
21 June 2017 (by j.rosano)
As part of our build up to the Eldwick & Gilstead Gala we are having our Gala Theme Day tomorrow, Thursday 22nd June. Children (whole school & Nursery) should come dressed as Mary Poppins or Chimney Sweeps as details in the letter sent home before half-term. During the day they will be making kites and learning some Mary Poppins songs.
Then on Saturday 24th June we would like as many children as possible to be part of our Gala Parade entry, dressed in their theme day outfits & carrying the kite they will have made at school. We will all meet in the school car park at 12.15pm. The whole parade then leaves Barnaby Rd following judging at 12.45pm. Please note we are unable to supervise the children and they will need to be accompanied. If you will be walking with your child in the parade we would love you to dress according to the theme to ensure our parade entry looks wonderfully co-ordinated and eye-catching for the judges and crowd!
Once we reach Eldwick Rec we will congregate near the Gala Queen float and you will be free to enjoy the day!
We hope you will support this important community event.
A HUGE thank you to Mrs Hepworth and her team of fantastic ladies who have worked like troopers (sadly without the Mary Poppins' snap of the fingers) to create the amazing props. They made sweep brushes, hats, skirts and kites. To give you an understanding of what has been involved, here are some Poppins stats:
- Over 108 sweep brushes made
- Over 74 skirts made
- Over 79 hats sprayed & hundreds of flowers punched
- Over 400 kites cut out
- Materials used included:
- 4L of paint
- 1,750 pipe cleaners
- 10kg clay
- Over 80 metres of fabric and
- 75m of elastic
- Over 350 pieces of card cut
Amazing effort, we are sure you will agree and we hope this will inspire you to come along and join us on Saturday to wow the judges and crowds!
Thank you and fingers crossed for some super weather!
