Mobile Phones in School
Hear at Eldwick Primary school we do not permit mobile phone (smartphones) in school.
There is continuing evidence that smartphones are not suitable for children at primary school and we support the Smartphone Free Childhood campaign.
While we understand that some families want their child to bring phones with them for safety when walking home, we believe there are safer and more appropriate alternatives.
We suggest the following options for ensuring your child’s safe journey home:
Walking in pairs or small groups with other pupils from the same class or neighbourhood.
Arranging to meet your child at an agreed location a short distance from school, rather than on-site.
Using wearable GPS trackers or smartwatches (without messaging or internet capability) that allow you to monitor their route home.
Speaking to your child about safe walking routes, road safety, and what to do in an emergency.
We also understand that your child might say that other children do this and it is allowed. This puts you under pressure. Smartphones are not permitted and this expectation comes from school.
We do recognise there may be occasional exceptional circumstances where it is helpful for a pupil to bring a mobile phone into school, if this is the case please contact the school office.
