The new statutory Early Years Foundation Stage Framework stipulates that children should have a balance of the main four food groups:
- potatoes, bread, rice, pasta and other starchy carbohydrates
- fruit and vegetables
- beans, pulses, fish, eggs, meat and other proteins
- dairy and alternatives
The photograph here shows an example of a healthy balanced lunch. The children enjoy having small portions of a variety of foods. Please ensure you provide a drink of water with their lunch. Most lunch bags now come with a water bottle included.
